Galerie Richard Paris presents the seventh Hervé HEUZÉ solo show at the gallery tilted Mythologies – Works On Paper from December 10th, 2016 to February 15th, 2017. During the same period Galerie Richard New York presents the Mythologies Paintings Series, his first solo show in New York City. Form December 7, 2016 to January 29, 2017.
The considerable advances in medical science, whether genetic or surgical, open the imagination to all kinds of combinations of hybrid beings, half human - half animal. As an artist-painter, it brought him back to the representations of divinities in mythologies, especially those of Greek and Roman, Hindu and Aztec. When the animal was not visually fitting to be hybridized with the human, he represented it through another relationship inspired by literature (The Master and Margarita by Mikhaïl Boulgakov), and movie (King Kong).
For this time artist shows us his new series of works on paper related to his previous painting show Mythologies in 2015 in Paris. Several drawings are preparatory works for the paintings currently exhibited in New York. Some others follow the opposite process: they were inspired by the paintings thus created from the paintings. In certain instances they are variations of the painting. Finally we discover drawings whose subjects are completely new. At the present time, they only exist as works on paper. Some of them could be prefiguration of upcoming paintings.
Hervé Heuzé has always made drawings. They have been his first works of art before paintings. He likes very much drawings by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, with their precision and control. He is also influenced by Gustave Doré, specifically his hatchings which follow the movements of the body. He is not interested in the gestural manifestation but in the quality of the rendering in shapes, spaces and light. As drawings usually are the first step of his creative process, there is a sense of intimacy for him to only exhibit works on paper. For this reason he decided to hang them in the gallery the same way as in his studio directly on the wall with pins. There are more than fifty drawings in the show caracterized by the diversity of sizes.
Hervé Heuzé regularly exhibits at Galerie Richard Paris and in international art fairs. He participated in a group exhibition in 2013 at the Borusan Contemporary Museum, Istanbul, Turkey. He got a solo show at the Middle Space Gallery in Beijing in 2011 and at the Emily Davis Gallery at the University of Akron, Ohio, USA in 2010, a solo exhibition in Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nice (2000), Museum of Art in Montbeliard and Montbeliard Art Center, Villa Tamaris Contemporary Art Center in La Seyne-sur-Mer, and several other public and private cultural institutions in France..
