In the time, when the world is rapidly shrinking, the flow of information is so overwhelming, that one can barely catch up with it and the theoreticians and art critics are saying that everything was already done, everything is - POST, Beata Cedrzyńska consciously stands in the outsider position, returns to the roots, spirituality and humanism. The questions she asks herself are the eternal questions. She searches for her own place, asks about the SENSE, the TRUTH , the SPIRIT. Enters the metaphysical realm.
B. Cedrzyńska doesn’t distance herself from the whole baggage of tradition, knowledge and experience of many generations - the whole history of art. Having this „baggage” with her she tries to add some of her own experience to it - her and nobody else’s.
PaulValery had the opinion that an artist accumulates, heaps desires, intentions and states, which find their way into his consciousness from every point of his spirituality and physical being. This is what an artist thinks about the model, other times about the color, the paint, the tone, the body itself, and finally the canvas, which takes in his paint. All these independent preoccupations unite in one act of creation, and all the separate moments scattered, outdoing one another, newly regained, held in suspension, lost again - all become a painting in his hands.
B. Cedrzyńska’s paintings seem carefully premeditated. The concept is born when she takes a camera in her hands – in this very moment she picks the frame, pushes the shutter key. She takes a note of a certain moment, seizes time.
The secret of an artist is the moment „it” is born. This („it”) comes from expedience, mood and the flow of emotions. Through cropping and developing a photographic image, she accomplishes synthesis and purification of what was seen. Putting aside unnecessary details, she simplifies the painting to a symbol and the sign of an idea. The paintings become a projection of the artist’s „self” - her experiences and feelings. She doesn’t do representations of nature, instead seeks her own truth - an absolute expressed in purely artistic qualities included and formulated in„the artificial language of art”.
A work of art is a symbol of the essence of being, and as stated by E Bernard - „ it is nothing else than a spirit personified by form, an ideal in a sensual shape”. I it disclosed by a certain dialectic between the presence of the action of creation by the individual factor, the artist’s own expression and the universal factor, distinctness
The artist, utilizing a system of work that is based on relations - model - photography – creator – painting, produces works that are a projection of her own sensibility, state of spirit, but also intellect. In search of her own „Self ” she tries to get closer to the „Truth”. „Absolute”, „Spirit”. Does she succeed? It is impossible to check or verify this.
Beata Cedrzyńska walks her own chosen path to a destination that still seems to be unreachable. As the road goes on, the destination seems further away. A man may walk this path to the very essence of the world itself, never understanding it, one might even get close to the secret, and never get to know it. (...)
Looking at B. Cedrzyńska’s paintings, I recall the thoughts of C.K. Norwid form „Promethidion”
„He, who loves - wants to se but a shadow of others And this is how he loves his Mother - Father - brothers - Mistress - even God „
This is the eternal law of art, which is but a shadow of others. Each of us carries a different picture of what is inexpressible. Norwid calls this person love, whose beauty is a shape.
