Incisive and relentlessly and also with a lot of humor, Hans Witschi negotiates in his pictures the human existence. Thereby his pictorial inventions are not based on prior calculated sketches. Instead, his works rely on the subconscious conception of complex contexts and processes that come to light during the process of painting. Under the title "flashes", the Galerie Stephan Witschi presents his latest works, which include a series of snapshots of after images which be etched in his mind during his wanderings through the streets. With fast gestures and a reduced palette, Witschi works against the disappearance of the flashing images. Whereas the series "Eidolons" deals with humans who walk between the worlds which emerge and disappear like ghosts in red backlighted color clouds. The two series are accompanied by the latest abstract water images. Hans Witschi, born in Luzern in 1954, lives and works in New York, USA since 1989.
