Since 1948, the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights has been translated into over 500 languages. Today, there are 193 member states in the UN, yet human rights are violated every day, all over the world. Sweden is no exception.
For the first time in Sweden, Galleri Duerr presents Santiago Sierra´s “Political Prisoners in Contemporary Spain”, which got attention when it was censored at Spain's leading art fair ARCO Madrid 2018. Together with Santiago´s work of art, we have the pleasure of presenting the artists Maikel Dominguez, Mireia Rocher, Matt Miley, Serinyà, Lana Stephens, Alannah Robins, Anthony Mills and Michel Östlund. With photography, installations, painting, drawing and sculpture, these artists will present interpretations of human rights violations throughout the world.
In the exhibition DEMOCRACY UNDER SIEGE the artists put focus on the effects of racism and censorship and the imprisonment of individuals due to their political views. What are the consequences of this for society as a whole and for us, as individuals?
Galleri Duerr is a Stockholm based gallery that invests in cross-cultural meetings between different forms of art, artists and generations - national and international, new and established. In the newly opened space of 4000 square meters on Östermalm, contemporary art is presented with the greatest focus on conveying the artist's history. This exhibition is taking place in d:crypt, our 400 sqm exhibition room one level down at Linnégatan 89C.
A warm welcome to the exhibition that affects, without exception.
Please note that more artworks and installation shots will be added shortly.
