On the occasion of Artissima 2018 the Galleria del Cembalo wants to propose a reflection on the theme of the series in photography. The development of a project in a serial form specifically belongs to photography, in particular European tradition, and was originally used for scientific cataloguing. Nowdaysthe series often come as polyptych, providing project an iconic substance to the workof the artist. The theme is explained through the works of internationally known artists as Antonio Biasiucci, Alain Fleischer, Paolo Gioli, whose images are in dialogue/comparison from the point of view of method, ambiguity of content, formal results. All the proposed works deal with the subject of the transformation and manipulation. By artifice or simply by intuitive perception the subjects don’t represent themselves, but become something else. The ‘X-sconosciuti’ by Paolo Gioli are monsters, ghosts, the “aluminium film” masks by Alain Fleischer turn into metal barks, the sliced trees by Antonio Biasiucci lead to tale’s contexts, while the imaginary Herbarium by Foncuberta guarantees the “real” falsehood of photography. In this ensemble, it is inserted the work of a very young artist, Sharon Ritossa, who starting from the political/historical event of the foibe, has realized a polyptych in which the relation between attraction and repulsion is expressed in the images of the abysses.
