Cast glass is the main material and method in his sculptures. Sometimes in his works glass is combined with other materials creating interesting contrasts or harmony. When working with blown glass he cooperates with professional glass blowers to reach the professional quality in the pieces.
“I am educated as a designer and I see that as a strength in the field of art as well. Understanding material esthetics and perception of three-dimensional form are essential skills when sculpting. I am especially interested in the esthetics of cast glass where the heavy material and visual lightness meet in most wonderful way. In my cast pieces, thick glass and different colors blending together create fascinating three-dimensional landscapes inside the pieces. Cast glass gives many possibilities what comes to controlling the shape and transparency. At the same time, it is technically challenging and laborious material.
If the cast glass work process is slow in the oven, also the grinding and polishing the piece to the final form requires patience. You can never be exactly sure how different colors has reacted and blended together. This is one of the most fascinating features in the final pieces when controlled shape meets the free movement of the color.”
