Gallery 1261 is pleased to present Three Person exhibition, featuring work from three very distinct and distinguished artists, opening May 6th. David Cheifetz, Jordan Wolfson, and David Shevlino each bring their own style and sense of their chosen subject matter to the canvas. This exhibition highlights each artists’ unique perspective on portraiture, still life, and landscape.
Seattle-based artist David Cheifetz has a knack for imbuing his work with palpable vitality. The paintings are arresting, drawing in the viewers to look over each detail that he so meticulously crafted. His knowledge and use of color presents the viewer with a fresh take on these two genres, as he often juxtaposes one vivid color against another. When paired with his chosen subject matter, the elements work together to create beautiful works of art that are wholly original and refreshing.
Jordan Wolfson is a Colorado-based painter who lends his talents to a variety of subject matter in a variety of styles. While some of his works are more realistic and pronounced depictions of his subjects, others tend toward abstraction in varying degrees. What this all goes to show is Wolfson’s range as an artist, depicting the world around him in more ways than one, highlighting multiple degrees of perspective.
David Shevlino’s style is a mix of realism with hints of impressionism. His portrait pieces often highlight the figure while obscuring elements in the background. These qualities are present in his still life work as well. The objects he chooses to paint are clearly distinguishable while also being abstract. The paint strokes are large and gestural, telling a story of the artists’ attachment to his chosen subject matter.
The common thread that runs through these three artists’ works is not limited to subject matter. Cheifetz, Wolfson, and Shevlino all present bodies of work which investigate these genres in a fully engaged manner, taking the ideas that initially drew them in and exploring them completely. These works stand-alone while also working together to communicate fresh and inspiring works of art that are engaging and multi-layered, sure to captivate the viewer.
