In recent years, Korean art has been the center of attention with the boom of 'Dansaekhwa (monochrome paintings)' in the global art market. However, due to this fabulous development it has been difficult to see other Korean contemporary art besides ‘Dansaekhwa’ in the global market since 2014. While enthusiastically introducing ‘Dansaekhwa’ artists to attract global attention is important, Korea’s galleries also have a great responsibility to shine a light on dynamic young Korean contemporary artists who have been overshadowed by ‘Dansaekhwa’. Thus, the Gallery BK has established a booth where you can glimpse the vision of promising next generation artists in their 30-40s who will lead the next future expansive wave of Korea's contemporary art. We would like to show you the colorfulness of the future of Korean contemporary art through the sculptures and installation art works of Bahk Seon-ghi, paintings by Yoon Jong-seok, Lee Sea-hyun and Byun Hong-chul. With the perspectives of young artists who reinterpret tradition from a modern viewpoint and who treat the essential facts of life of this era with fresh sensibilities, we hope this opportunity serves as the starting point to fully reveal and promote the future vision and diversity of Korea’s contemporary art.
