The 9th edition of ‘ASYAAF (Asian Students and Young Artists Art Festival)’ co-hosted by Chosun-ilbo and Seoul Design Foundation, and co-organized by Chosun-ilbo Cultural Promotion Division and LVS PROJECT, is reborn into ‘2016 ASYAAF & Hidden Artists Festival.’
‘ASYAAF & Hidden Artists Festival’ held in Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) from July 19th to August 14th is consisted of ‘ASYAAF’, which selects and showcases students and emerging artists under the age of 30, and ‘Hidden Artists Festival’ which intends to discover ‘hidden’ mid-career artists from the age of 30 to 50. ‘ASYAAF & Hidden Artists Festival’ exhibits and sells works by 600 artists in total.
The overseas artists section curated and managed by LVS PROJECT consists of 56 artists from 9 different countries. This year edition features approximately 220 works ranging from paintings, prints and craft. The highlights of the exhibition include young Vietnamese artists’ silk paintings, which are rarely exhibited in Korea, as well as other works with each country’s distinctive cultural characteristics. Furthermore, the “Special Selection” section introduces 9 promising and noteworthy young artists from Asia recommended by curators and college professors in the same region.
ASYAAF has been extremely successful in the past 8 years selling approximately 5,200 artworks and 270,000 number of visitors has become the representative art fair of students and young artists. This year’s ‘2016 ASYAAF & Hidden Artists Festival’ will again be an exceptional opportunity to admire the trend of Korean contemporary art composed of not only refreshing artworks by young artists, but also the hidden gems by the ‘Hidden Artists’ at one view.
