Gallery One is pleased to announce its participation in Abu Dhabi Art Fair, Bidaya Sector from the 18th until the 21st of November 2015. Gallery One will showcase a wide spectrum of contemporary and modern art by established and emerging Palestinian artists including Sliman Mansour, Sophie Halaby, Bashar Al Hroub, Khaled Hourani, Nabil Anani, Sharif Waked and Tayseer Barakat. Three of the featured artists Tayseer Barakat, Nabil Anani and Sliman Mansour are founders of the New Visions, a collective formed in response to the first intifada (1987 - 1993), where the artists turned to earthworks and mixed media and assemblage using materials derived from the Palestinian environment in order to boycott Israeli art supplies in protest of the on-going occupation. The artworks presented at Gallery One are from this important historical period in Palestinian history of art. Along side these artworks, Gallery One, is showcasing artworks by contemporary artists including Sharif Waked, Bashar Alhroub and Khaled Hourani who share parallel themes - representations of moments of collapse, hybridity, and repetition - while re-enacting iconic political events that occurred in Palestinian history. For instance, Sharif Waked, in his artwork, BEACE BROCCESS 1, re-enacts in a sarcastic and critical manner a very important historical moment in the history of Palestine. The video duplicates and reconstructs into infinity the mutual dance of acknowledgment between Barak and Arafat. Setting aside their pride, they tussle in a performance of respect over who would be the first to enter the negotiating room.
Presented with a diverse line-up of artists, fair attendees will have the opportunity to experience some of the exciting aesthetic developments that are currently taking place in the Palestinian art scene.
