Darren Jones is a Scottish artist and art critic, based in Key West.These works Based on the ever-changing conditions of the Florida Keys (with perhaps a note of his ancestral Scotland) they are also layered with the imaginary, drawing upon fragments of warm, Floridian colors, vistas, and experiences. He earned his BA Hons. (Painting) from Central Saint Martins College of Art, London; and his MFA (Combined Media) from Hunter College, New York.
He has exhibited extensively in group and solo exhibitions internationally including at the State Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow; Royal Scottish Academy Galleries, Edinburgh; National Library of Argentina, Buenos Aires; Queens Museum of Art, New York; National Museum of Contemporary Art, Wroclow, Poland; The Reading Room, Dallas; Konsthallen-Bohusläns Museum, Uddevalla, Sweden; and the Guildhall Art Gallery, London.
Jones work—drawings, text-based interventions, sculpture, painting — often highlights modest observations from every-day experience. A familiar image, motif or cliche, reworked to offer a different perspective, or to tweak the mundane or no longer noticed parts of our social environments.
