The gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of five large paintings. For Already Gone, Satterlee employs a particular and personal painterly language to offer a visual universe where time compresses and expands, objects careen through spaces or slowly arrive at surfaces, shapes vacillate between fore and background. Satterlee’s palette is carefully considered. Every formal decision is thoughtful and specific. Empirically beautiful on first glance, the drama of each work plays patiently, rewarding long-looking.
Thomas Micchelli, in his excellent review of this work for Hyperallergic points out: “Patricia Satterlee is a superb painter whose work hasn’t quite achieved the level of visibility it deserves.”
