GRAFO gallery at the ArtVilniu'18 international contemporary art fair will present two young – generation Lithuanian artists: Eglė Pilkauskaitė and Aistis Kavaliauskas.
Aistis Kavaliauskas (1992) is Lithuanian artist who creates visual art in various forms. In 2015 artist earned bachelor's degree in sculpture at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, but currently he does not limit himself with one direction. He works with painting, installations, video art, photography and object art. In addition, Aistis Kavaliauskas is an active street art participant- he attends various projects, art workshops and designs large-scale wall paintings.
Artist in his works explores the gap between urbanism and nature, between virtuality and primordial experiences. Multiplicity, multiculturalism, various references, appropriations, discussions and questions, which often have not one answer. The artist seriously accepts power of imaging and image matching and uses it to explore creative visual issues, whose meanings are completed by the viewer.
Eglė Pilkauskaitė (1989) holds drawing bachelor’s degree from Camberwell College of Arts. She currently lives and creates in Lithuania and actively participates in various exhibitions and art projects abroad. Artist is interested in various types of drawing, which in her artworks develop into many different visual arts types: photography, object art, graphics, drawing with materials like exhaust, dirt, etc. and the use of various technologies (X-rays, 3D computer graphics, etc.).
Surrounding environment is very important for the artist, she is interested in spaces that are affected by fire, destruction, crumbling processes. She uses artefacts found in these places to convey the beauty of ruin, the romance of displacement. When questioning the norms of beauty and aesthetics set by society, Eglė Pilkauskaitė always balances between the boundary of beauty and ugliness.
