Elise Wagner: Amalgamation
HOUSTON, TX—Gremillion & Co. Fine Art, Inc. is pleased to participate in PrintHouston 2017 and announce the opening of Amalgamation by American painter, printmaker Elise Wagner on Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Printmaking has always been an important part of Wagner’s studio practice due to its immediacy, spontaneity and element of surprise. These aspects of printmaking compliment her overall approach to painting, making way for new conceptual directions to continue evolving in her work.
To celebrate PrintHouston 2017, the work in Amalgamation embodies various non-traditional approaches to printmaking combined with encaustic painting. In Wagner’s studio, a synthesis between the foundations of printmaking and encaustic painting is continually unfolding. This integration forms a cross-disciplinary narrative that is essential to her work.
The exhibition will run through June 10, 2017. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The physical wonders of the universe spark my imagination and as an artist, I feel compelled to respond through the creation of imagery. I thrive on the challenge of visually interpreting the sublime and the unseen. The narrative for my work initiates itself by way of navigating through the alchemy of its materials.
My studio practice is fluid and multidisciplinary. Through the use of four mediums, encaustic and oil painting, drawing and printmaking, the work weaves a continuous thread.
What remains from these methods of process goes directly back into the work. The texture from one painting may become the graphite rubbing, transfer or collage for another; one or several printing plates can be used interchangeably as prints or paintings and, encaustic hues often mimic the inks mixed for prints: thereby facilitating a conversation between all disciplines.
My work explores the contradictions between chaos, the indifference of nature and science’s efforts to understand through exploration. Engagement with the contemporary world fosters my preoccupation with natural science, nature, the sublime and beauty.
