Coinciding with our exhibition, «Tableau Zurich» will feature a seven-part installation by Hamish Fulton. A cooperation in the context of «Gasträume».
With a group show of seven gallery artists and one guest artist, we are pleased to continue in Zurich the reflection on sculpture started at the Munich gallery at the beginning of the year. The presentation gives an exciting insight into the diversity of contemporary object art and also provides a cross-section of our program.
Sculpture evokes an encounter in space and invites the viewer as a physical counterpart to self-positioning. These characteristics make sculpture so interesting in the digital age, as interaction is increasingly taking place in virtual spheres. Following the success of the exhibition »Nur Skulptur (Sculpture Only)« in our Munich gallery, we are continuing our investigation of the object in Zurich. With seven main artistic positions from our program and a guest artist, we show the manifold possibilities of contemporary sculpture.
The spectrum ranges from small-format floor sculptures by Hubert Kiecol and Gary Kuehn to wall objects by Keith Sonnier, Hamish Fulton and Sébastien de Ganay, to Haroon Mirzas interactive sculpture and the large-scale of everyday objects by Roman Signer. In the case of the latter two, ephemeral aspects also become part of the sculptural statement, while Michael Venezia makes the border between painting and relief permeable.
While the exhibition in Munich was dominated by a minimalist poetic vocabulary, the Zurich presentation continues to reveal the humorous potential of various materials and forms. Sébastien de Ganay's sculpture «The Bomb» illustrates as an exhibit of both exhibitions that the reading of an object can also change depending on the context. Thus we open up the field for a far-reaching reflection on sculpture.
