Helikon Gallery is pleased to present ‘Spectra,’ a group exhibit of artists whose work is strongly concerned with the power of color as a method of expressing emotive visual themes, narratives, and moods. Color is at times simple and complex, ranging from symbolic associations with emotions and ideas to an entire array of abstract feelings that defy language entirely. The title is the plural form of the work ‘spectrum,’ meaning the continuum of colors in the range of visible light. The artists
featured in Spectra were chosen for the various ways they explore this continuum in their work-- while many of
the pieces embrace a vibrant, super-saturated palette bursting with candy-sweet color, others are limited to muted earth tones or even a single color vibrating against endless darkness. Spectra invites viewers to examine these choices and to become enveloped in the many resulting colorscapes.
