Over the Hills

Hometown is pleased to present Over the Hills, an exhibition of artwork by Christopher Astley, Joshua Hagler, Andrea Joyce Heimer, Meredith Sands, Michael Uttaro, Elmar Vestner, and August Vollbrecht.

Staged during summer, a time characterized by a sense of wandering, departure and renewal, Over the Hills features artworks that engage states beyond the normal. Visions of impossible landscapes, past events reimagined as personal myth, and journeys inward provide a break from reality and the everyday, an indulgence that may ultimately lead to a clearer perception of the real upon return. The remote subject matter of these works also serves as a metaphor of summer as a fleeting period known mainly through anticipation, on the one hand, and memory on the other—this liminal relationship makes the season and its potential all the more elusive.
