Il cielo in una stanza
14 June – 23 July 2016
Opening Tuesday 14 June 2016 7.00 pm
On Tuesday 14 June 2016 at 7.00 pm, Rome’s Honos Art gallery presents “Il cielo in una stanza”, the solo exhibition by the photographer Stefano Mirabella, curated by Giuseppe Prode.
Twenty photographs make up Il cielo in una stanza by Stefano Mirabella, a key point in his professional journey: street photography. This selection represents the state of the art of a journey begun in 2012 and now at a mature point in the activity of the photographer, who relates and reveals the facets of a Rome that is visible, apparently, to all. A barely sketched city, revealed through unwanted details in a light-hearted account made up of glances, close-up encounters, everyday life. The sure touch and the complicity of some situations give these photographs their power and invite viewers to attempt an everyday stylistic exercise, in other words to train their eye to the obvious and attempt to go beyond it. Waiting, the ability to imagine the right frame, choosing the right time to act have as their goal the representation of a narrative moment. The street is an extraordinary training ground that suggests and teases out stories, and where the boundary between the didactic and its opposite is virtually impalpable. In these photographs, Stefano Mirabella shows us that he is a rightful member of that noble list of photographers who have made street photography the foundation and manner of their approach.
Stefano Mirabella was born in Rome in 1973 and still lives in the city today; in 2003 he took his first steps in the world of photography by attending courses at the best schools in Rome. Immediately afterwards, he began his own personal journey as a photographer, which saw him engaged on social reportage, with numerous trips abroad: Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, India, Syria and the occupied Palestinian territories. These experiences gave rise to some solo exhibitions and various publications. His passion for photography led him to become a teacher, constantly holding courses in advanced and basic photography, both individual and for associations and schools. Since 2012, he has been a practitioner of Street Photography. He immediately became a member of the Italian collective Spontanea. He experiences street photography as an opportunity to be among people and rediscover his home city. He prefers this type of photography, a balance between the desire to represent the real world and the drive to transcend it.
