As a glass blower Gary Zack's love of color led him to hot glass that allows blending colors in ways cold glass techniques could not. Zack continues to blend colors in his paintings and his compositions are abundant with contrasts of light and dark, texture, pattern, and mood.
Hutson Gallery is proud to welcome back for a third season, Gary Zack. A glass blower, painter and former gallerist of nearly 30 years from Saratoga Springs, New York, Gary is a self-taught artist originally from Chicago. Zack has spent the last two decades working with glass. His love of color led him to hot glass that allows blending colors in ways that flat, cold glass techniques could not. Zack’s passion for working with color led him to experiment with other media, especially during times when his glassblowing studio was shut down. Zack’s new body of two-dimensional work reflects his ability to manipulate color in a subtle and intentional manner. His current work with acrylics presents yet another opportunity for Zack to compose pieces rich with contrasts of light and dark, texture, pattern and mood. His “Landscape Poppies” are sculpted with a palette knife and his “Pueblo” and “Grey and Black” paintings look as rich as his art created in glass. From small color studies to larger compositions, Zack’s paintings offer yet another opportunity for lovers of color to explore and enjoy.
