in lieu is pleased to announce our participation in Material Art Fair 2018 with work by Los Angeles-based artists Kayla Ephros and Sasha Bergstrom-Katz. Material takes place February 8-11 in Ciudad de Mexico.
Three objects by Sasha Bergstrom-Katz, collectively titled Not Seeing, will be on view. Each sculpture is based upon an existing object designed to address what is seen and what is hidden from view: a magic trick, a pedagogical tool for science classes, and a theoretical model of input/output.
Kayla Ephros will show a small collection of handmade dolls alongside one drawing and a pair of ceramic shoes.
Kayla Ephros (b. 1992, New Jersey) received her BFA from the California Institute of the Arts in 2016. Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions at the Ace Hotel (New York), Adult Gallery (Copenhagen), Phil Gallery (Los Angeles). Her first solo exhibition took place at in lieu (Los Angeles), in June 2017. Ephros has written two chapbooks; Maple Shade and Never Go To Your Room in the Daytime, from which she has given many readings. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
Sasha Bergstrom-Katz (b. 1986, Los Angeles) received her BFA from the California Institute of the Arts in 2008 and will receive her MFA from University of California - Irvine in 2018. Her work has been exhibited in group exhibitions at Machine Project (Los Angeles), Roberts & Tilton (Los Angeles), Arturo Bandini (Los Angeles), in lieu (Los Angeles) and in a solo exhibition at AWHRHWAR (Los Angeles). She currently lives and works in Los Angeles.
