Homebody: New Prints 2020/Winter

INTERNATIONAL PRINT CENTER NEW YORK (IPCNY) is pleased to present Homebody: New Prints
2020/Winter, an exhibition featuring 31 artists from Australia, Canada, Portugal, Ukraine, the United
Kingdom, and the United States whose work explores relationships between personal and domestic
structures. IPCNY’s New Prints Program is a biannual, juried open call for prints and print-based work
that captures current voices and issues in contemporary printmaking. ///
Throughout the jurying process, Ariana Barat, Gregory Burnet, Orit Mardkha-Tenzer, and Keris Salmon
were collectively drawn to works that played with themes of domesticity and place. Burnet noted his
affinity for “things we see all the time but maybe become too used to,” including landscapes, domestic
interiors, furniture, utensils, and even pets. ///
From the jury’s selections, a question arises: what makes these mundane spaces, objects, and
relationships unique to an individual’s experience? In Homebody, both homes and bodies serve as sites
where individual memories can ruminate and grow, shaping personal perspectives on our surroundings
and the world. These banal but necessary objects and dwellings, and the ways we interact and depend on
them, shape our understanding of ourselves and of each other. Stella Ebner’s Cricket, Glass & Business
Reply Mail depicts an unexpected view of a kitchen floor, forming an abstraction of domestic space, and
Evgenia Kim’s Koryo Saram co-mingles textiles and traditions from her Uzbek, Korean, and Russian
heritages as a path to defining her identity between diasporas. ///
The six awardees of the New Prints Artist Development Program will be announced at the opening

ABOUT THE JURY: Ariana Barat is an artist, activist, and Printmaking Facilities Manager at Parsons
School of Design; Gregory Burnet is an artist, Master Printer, and Owner of Burnet Editions, New
York; Orit Mardkha-Tenzer is an artist, graphic designer, and instructor of graphic design at City
College of New York; and Keris Salmon is a visual artist and storyteller.
ABOUT THE NEW PRINTS PROGRAM: IPCNY’s New Prints Program is a platform for artists from a wide
range of backgrounds working in the medium of print. The biannual open call exhibitions feature prints
in a variety of formats and techniques created in the preceding twelve months. Artists selected for the
exhibition are eligible to apply for the New Prints Artist Development Program. This program consists
of three opportunities for artists to further develop their careers and printmaking practice: a month-long
Artist Residency in partnership with a local printmaking workshop; an Artist Mentorship, pairing artists
with mentors who provide critical feedback, career guidance, and introductions in the field; and
Sponsored Coursework, which funds workshops or classes of the artists’ choice. ///
