For Draw Art Fair London, the gallery is showing works on paper by Indian artist Zarina and Portuguese artist Rui Moreira. Works by modern masters such as Jean Dubuffet, Hans Reichel, Mark Tobey and Vieira da Silva will complement the visions of these two artists.
Jeanne Bucher Jaeger has been in activity since 1925 and was set from its very beginning in an avant-garde atmosphere. Apart from representing some of the artists it has worked with since its very beginning, the gallery now also promotes the following artists: Michael Biberstein, Miguel Branco, Zarina, Dani Karavan, Rui Moreira, Jean-Paul Philippe, Hanns Schimansky, Susumu Shingu, Paul Wallach, Yang Jiechang and Antonella Zazzera. Its General Direction is given since 2004 by Jeanne Bucher’s great grand-daughter Véronique Jaeger who, in addition to the St Germain Gallery, opened a second exhibition space in the Marais district in 2008 as well as, very recently, one in Lisbon. Her brother Emmanuel Jaeger has joined her in 2010.
For Draw Art Fair London, the gallery is showing works on paper by Indian artist Zarina, and Portuguese artist Rui Moreira. For both artists, their travels inform their imagery and drawing is central to their practice. They take inspiration from nature as well as culture and tradition. Zarina draws upon the poetics of space and the politics of cultural migration, after living early on the Indian Partition and the painful experience of exile, to inscribe in most subtle ways her memories of family as well as places and atmospheres she encountered during her nomadic life. Moreira’s organic landscapes fuse different traveling experiences from Morocco, India to the Brazilian Amazonian forest: these mnemonic patient exercises engender an approach mixing the mostly personal, a microscopic cellular vision to a universal one infused by stellar systems invoking environments strongly inspired as well by his repertoire of filmography, poetry and music. Works by modern masters such as Jean Dubuffet, Hans Reichel, Mark Tobey and Vieira da Silva will be complementing the visions of these 2 artists in a fruitful dialogue of resonances.
