Hunt Slonem is an American painter and sculptor best known for his Neo-Expressionist paintings of bunnies, birds and butterflies. He maintains a large studio in Brooklyn, NY filled with his paintings and sculpture, an impressive collection of antiques and fifty-plus birds who provide him constant inspiration. The recurring motifs that Hunt Slonem explores in his work are pared down to their essence. For Slonem, they are elevated to divinity through repetition; like the act of repeating a phrase creates a mantra. The act of repeating these forms becomes an act of worship. For Hunt Slonem, painting is a sacred process and as such, his body of work represents much more than what is painted on the canvas. Mr. Slonem’s work is in a multitude of museum collections including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art, as well as many corporate and private collections. Hunt Slonem is regularly featured in art, design and shelter magazines from ArtNews to Architectural Digest, not only for his artwork but also for the four historic homes he owns and has restored, decorated and filled with works of art.
