"Currents" will include 10 new paintings by Audra Weaser. Audra's abstracted, organic paintings suggest watery scenes pierced by light; there is a vibratory contrast between elements that shimmer with recognition yet remain elusive.
Audra Weaser’s abstracted, organic paintings suggest watery scenes pierced by light; there is a vibratory contrast between elements that shimmer with recognition yet remain elusive. In describing her latest paintings Audra states, "The way in which water is affected by various elements is both inevitable and predictable. In a similar way, my approach to painting is both pre-determined and influenced by what happens in the moment. The element of water can also be seen as a calming or powerful force to be reckoned with—much like art itself.
"Developed over time, my technique is designed to give a literal depth to the paintings which is achieved by initially applying layers of paint around a loose composition. From there, I refine it only to obscure it again with a veil of white. The final step is to sand through the layers of paint - a physically intense process that is necessary to achieve a sense of fluidity.
"That contrast—between depth and fluidity—inspires me throughout my work and, I hope, equally engages the viewer."
