Yanagisawa Noriko studied under Hayashi Takeshi and Komai Tetsuro at Tokyo University of the Arts. Her representative works are copperplate prints, paintings that are drawn in Chinese ink, charcoal, stone pigment... and combined one as collage. One of the theme the artist keep drawing is our body. She has been trying to express spiritual things through drawing bodies. She often draws animals, birds, and plants those are sometimes become a part of human body. It shows her reverence for nature and life of all creatures. Her works are composed of "fragments" that gathered by her concerned with nature and human, primitive culture and modern civilization, animistic elements... those become a metaphor or media and the works become like poems. Recently, not only domestic museums but also foreign museums held her solo exhibition, for example Portugal, Romania, Israel, Bangladesh and etc. Last year, two museums in Shizuoka Prefecture held her solo exhibition at the same time. At this exhibition, 20 works included her latest works (copperplate prints and mixed-media paintings) will be on display.
