KATRINE LEVIN GALLERIES BRINGS CONTEMPORARY CHINESE ARTIST FROM YUNNAN TO FITZROVIA – SUMMER 2017
Katrine Levin Galleries is delighted to bring paintings and woodblock prints by the unforgettable Chen Li to the Coningsby Gallery, between 19 June to 1 July 2017.
Chen Li (b.1971) lives in Kunming, the capital of China’s spectacular Yunnan Province. Rooted in Eastern philosophies, he creates a dynamic harmony of line and colour, exploring a unique visual language by melding the abstract and gestural qualities of Chinese ink painting with the colours and textures of Western oil painting.
Defying being categorised in any one style, he says “Just like writing a love letter, content is key; what pen you use is not important. Chinese art and Western art have different views about reality. But when I paint, I ignore both man-made and natural rules to create living artistic images.”
In his first year on the international stage, Chen Li’s works have been placed in significant private collections in the United Kingdom, Italy and the United States, inspiring a loyal following. His work has been shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2017. This is his first U.K. exhibition.
