PRESS RELEASE – Kopeikin Gallery
Artist: Michael Lange
Dates: August 4th – August 25th
Kopeikin Gallery is pleased to announce its third Artsy online-exclusive show featuring German photographer Michael Lange’s latest body of work BERG /mountain before it debuts in the gallery in 2019. BERG is a continuation of Lange’s recent landscape studies FLUSS /river (2015) and WALD /forest (2012). The work was photographed in the French Alps between 2013 - 2018.
The series is a meditative exploration of human relationship with landscape; an encounter of the ephemeral and solid. It follows the idea of transformation, of merging solid presence with elemental forces.
“A longing to connect with nature and stillness is a strong stimulus for my work, besides the joy of spending days in solitude surrounded by rock. Being exposed and waiting for countless days for the unexpected to happen has formed a deep relationship and love,” says Lange.
Born in Heidelberg and based in Hamburg Germany, Michael Lange has been worked as a magazine and commercial photographer in the seventies through nineties. In 1996 he started photographing personal projects and focuses solely on artistic work since 2009.
The landscape series WALD and FLUSS were exhibited at the Kopeikin gallery (2016). Limited edition prints of both are available at the gallery. WALD and FLUSS published as monographs by Hatje Cantz are available at the Kopeikin Gallery as limited edition books. A publication of BERG is scheduled for 2019.
Lange has had numerous solo shows, amongst them at the prestigious Alfred Ehrhardt Foundation in Berlin, Robert Morat Gallery Hamburg, L.A. Gallery Frankfurt, Wouter van Leeuwen Gallery Amsterdam and photo-eye gallery Santa Fe. His work was part of various photo festivals and fares such as “La Gacilly” in France, “Noorderlicht” in the Netherlands, Paris Photo or AIPAD. He has twice been the recipient of the Stiftung Kulturfonds grant in Germany.
