L&B gallery presents Hivernació - Hibernación, a work by Joan Ill. The installation is made with a real catalan sailing skate vertically placed, leaning upside down on the wall... A very rare perspective when we look at a boat. The sailing skate is framed by a huge 4-meter high chassis. The light sets the attention on the center of the skate, creating a shadow game on the wall. The work’s presence is shocking and creates a great impact on the spectator.
As Marcel Duchamp said, in the idea of ready-made, the important thing is the decision of ready-made, much more than the object itself. Making the act of choosing an aesthetic idea.
According to the artist, the skate hibertanes in the gallery, from where it will sail at the end of the exhibition to go back sailing.
Nseo is the name of the video-installation Joan Ill has realized in collaboration with her daughter Anna Ill, his first project together. The filming was made by Anna during their sailing to Barcelona with the skate. The screen in inside a wook box on the floor, placed on the center of the gallery. The combination of images and Jon Barberek’s music showcase a wonderful abstraction which envolves the spectator in a very suggerent nine-minute loop.
