Madeleine Lamont and Penelope Stewart both independent artists and entrepreneurs are the driving force behind Lamont | Stewart Art Projects. They have been creating, curating and facilitating ambitious installation-based projects, exhibitions, pop ups and participating in global residencies since the early 1990’s. More recently they have launched a stunning online gallery of talented artists. Lamont | Stewart Art Projects promotes the independent careers of the artists in their gallery, through exhibitions, their blog, their independent publishing company La Ruche Press and now Art Fairs.
For the first time Lamont | Stewart Art Projects will have a booth at the Affordable Art Fair. Lamont and Stewart will be showcasing their work as well as promoting emerging artist Laine Groeneweg. Madeleine Lamont is well known for her contemporary take on classic oil painting. To give it a twist she uses 21st century materials such as mylar to bring a luminous quality to her work. For the Affordable Art Fair Lamont will be showcasing selections from her Bears, Beast and Botanicals Suites.
Penelope Stewart, is an artist working across the varied media of sculpture, installation, photography, works on paper and architectural interventions. For the Affordable Art Fair Stewart brings a selection of photo based work which reflect a study of the garden as a site of cultural memory, of time and space and a considered approach to the relationship between objects, architecture and the places in-between. Central to this collection are her stereoscopic cards Ruin Gazing and her photos on plexi, Echo Utopia and Framework I which create discreet shadows on the wall.
Laine Groeneweg is an emerging artist and printmaker. Groeneweg trained at Fondazione Il Bisonte Per Lo Studio Dell’Arte Grafica in Florence, Italy with a focus on intaglio printmaking. Since then, Groeneweg has been widely recognized for his mezzotint works. His prints explore the possibilities of a traditional technique in the wake of more contemporary production methods. Often characterized by themes of dream and play, his whimsical imagery blurs the line between reality and fiction.
Lamont |Stewart Art Projects will be showcasing Laine Groeneweg's fantastic mezzotint series Sea Level. Groeneweg just received the news that his work Poseidon as well as being used on the poster, has been shortlisted for a prize at The Fourth International Mezzotint Festival, Ekaterinburg, Russia.
