Pravdoliub Ivanov - Neglectable Incidents at the Level of the Eyes
Press Release
Pravdoliub Ivanov. Neglectable Incidents at the Level of the Eyes
The exhibition by Pravdoliub Ivanov refers to his two individual shows organized nearly twenty years ago titled At the Level of the Eyes (1998) and Neglectable Incidents (1999). Come back to the older artist’s projects will be confronted with the newest works created on the basis of new and older unrealized concepts. The exhibition resulting in few works created on site includes wall pieces with use of text, photographs, objects and video.
Pravdoliub Ivanov was born in 1963 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Graduate of the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia (1993), he is a member (since 1995) of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Sofia, where he lives and works. He has been artist-in-residence at institutions in Switzerland, United States, France and Great Britain. In his work Ivanov uses ordinary objects, familiar from everyday activities and ‘existential’ situations, showing them in possible but illogical arrangements and thus situating them at the fringes of reality. He often exploits the absurdity of clichés that automatically associate various objects with certain conditions or forms of behaviour. His works are held in many private and public collections such as Art. Collection Telekom, Deutsche Bank, Erste Bank in Vienna, Europe Investment Bank in Luxembourg, the Koç Collection in Istanbul, the National Art Gallery in Sofia, or the René Block collection.
