Joe Max Emminger, well known to Seattle audiences, continues his optimistic and magnetic narratives where a cast of characters play, love, and interact. His people, animals, and objects possess a life force and magic that recall the canvases of Chagall. There is a zany absurdity to this work, outside the conventions of modern life but delightfully innocent and fun.
In this new body of work, Emminger has started painting directly on wood panels in addition to his signature paintings on paper. He has expanded his palette to include a varied color range, and is also working larger with more complexity.
Emminger has exhibited extensively at prominent galleries throughout the Northwest. Widely collected, it is easy to see why his iconic images have graced Bumbershoot posters twice.
