Vivid compositions of local neighborhoods in limited palettes--The Seattle-based artist’s interest in architecture, born from her art historical training, guides her sensitive treatment of urban place, which searches for beauty in everyday spaces.
Lisa Harris Gallery is pleased to present Neighborhood, featuring vibrant acrylic paintings by Seattle-based artist Lisa Snow Lady. Vivid compositions of local neighborhoods, capturing street scenes and domestic gardens in bright, limited palettes, are at the heart of these works. An artist’s reception for Lisa Snow Lady’s first solo show at Lisa Harris Gallery will be held July 2, 6 – 8 p.m. Snow Lady’s paintings search for beauty in everyday spaces, lending nobility to the ordinary. With confident brushstrokes, she paints winding driveways, private alleys, sunlit rooftops illuminated by warm purples, blues and oranges. The artist’s interest in architecture, born from her art historical training, guides her sensitive treatment of urban place. Roofs, walls, and staircases divide the picture plane, creating dynamic spaces reminiscent of Richard Diebenkorn’s landscapes. Snow Lady pays attention to the forms and shapes hewn from strong light and shadow. Scenes of familiar streets are transformed into bright architectural examinations that meet greenery and the panoramas of the Pacific Northwest. Lisa Snow Lady holds a degree in Art History and Fine Arts from the University of Washington. Her work has been widely shown in the Seattle area, as well as galleries in Port Townsend, Bainbridge Island, and Bellingham. Her work is in public and private collections, including Safeco Insurance Co., Swedish Hospital, and University of Washington Medical Center. Snow Lady has won numerous awards and distinctions for her works, including first prize for landscape at 2014’s Best of Gage exhibition.
