The works in Paula Crawford’s An Alternative to Logic were created between 2016 and 2018. During this tumultuous span of time the artist suffered a severe concussion, ultimately affecting the executive function of the right lobe of her brain. These paintings record her unsettled world where processions of partial memories clutter her mind, often colliding and jostling for recognition.
“It was as if a strong wind had blown through my brain and scattered dreams and memories across the floor. Some were bright, others faded or torn around the edges. I decided to pick them up and paint them.”
