Lora Schlesinger Gallery is proud to present Lost Landscapes, Dimitri Kozyrev’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. The exhibition opens with an artist’s reception, Saturday July 21st from 4-6pm, and is on view through September 1, 2018.

Dimitri Kozyrev’s Lost Landscapes is a series of striking, minimalist paintings of urban landscapes that parallel the visual language of driving. Since a driver’s attention must be directed forward, environments diminish into the periphery and specific details are lost. In attempting to recreate the scenes from fragmented elements, the landscapes produced become autonomous energetic abstractions of the original visual experience rather than representational facsimiles.

Largely influenced by Russian Constructivists and Bauhaus scholars, Kozyrev’s minimalist aesthetic aims to immediately engage and disseminate information to the viewer with only basic elements. His expressive geometric compositions turn commonplace, prosaic scenes into compelling, dynamic works.

Kozyrev was born in 1967 in St. Petersburg, Russia. He received his MFA from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 2000 and BFA from Ohio University in 1997. Kozyrev’s work has exhibited at the Krasnoyarsk VIII Biennale, Museum of Contemporary Art (Russia), the Tucson Museum of Art (AZ), Museum of Contemporary Art (AZ), Gulf Coast Museum of Art (FL), Santa Monica Museum of Art (CA), and Torrance Art Museum (CA). Reviews of his work have appeared in The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, Artweek, Artforum, and Huffington Post.
