In Arab, Liqa' translates into encounter or gathering. It furthermore recalls associations with water, aqua or liquid. Awe´s latest body of works plays with the idea of flowing and melting, pulsation and movement. Deceptively real-looking water drops and myriads of coloured layers result in floods of optical impressions. What is seemingly made in a swift manner, is actually the result from a tedious process of application and ablation.
In regards to most recent incidents, the subject of water turns into an allusion to international emergencies opposing the terms of passage and barrier, yearning and hope. For that it is why, Awe was commissioned with the project of his 300-squaremeter mural Begegnung, which is installed at the facade of the federal state representation of Lower Saxony in Berlin. This project is part of an initiative for refugees in Lower Saxony.
