Luis De Jesus Los Angeles is please to present TOWER/TUNNEL, a selection of new color pencil drawings by DENNIS KOCH, on view in the Project Space from March 12 – April 16. An artists’ reception will take place on Saturday, March 12th, from 6 – 9 pm.
The title of Dennis Koch’s exhibition Tower/Tunnel eludes to the idea of something that is simultaneously convex and concave. A lens reflecting light (like a lighthouse tower) or a conduit like fiberoptic cable (tunnel) that uses light as it's means of information exchange. In Koch's newest body of work, "Versor Parallels", the properties and relationship of rotating spheres is contemplated further. These drawings consist of vortices within circles that circumscribe an exponential matrix of triangles. This geometry of vortices, circles, and triangles form a prismatic refraction, an analog to the electromagnetic spectrum, which we perceive as visible light. Koch views these works as an allegory for the kaleidoscopic combination of the twelve Jungian archetypes within people or even the cosmological myth of our solar system having once been inhabited by twelve planets.
Dennis Koch has been featured in solo and group exhibitions with Luis De Jesus Los Angeles, Blum and Poe, The Underground Museum (Los Angeles), Marie Contemporary, Karl Hunter Fine Art, Happy Lion, Kantor Gallery, High Energy Constructs, the Torrance Art Museum; as well Galerie Zurcher, New York, Galerie Sabine Knust in Munich, Miyake Fine Art in Tokyo, and PIASA in Paris. In November 2013, Koch was highlighted as one of 7 emerging male artists to watch in Los Angeles Confidential Magazine. He is represented by Luis De Jesus Los Angeles.
