BORIS VISKIN PRESENTS HIS NEW EXHIBITION IN MÉRIDA, YUCATAN
Series based on “A page of jokes: “The Art Comics and Satires of Ad Reinhardt”
The mácula or mácula lútea (from Latin macula, "spot" + lútea, "yellow") is an oval-shaped pigmented area near the center of the retina of the human eye specialized in the fine vision of the details.
Mérida, Yucatán August 30, 2017.- The series created by Boris Viskin for Lux Perpetua Art Centre is based on the art comics and satires of Ad Reinhardt, titled: "A page of jokes". In each one of these sheets, Reinhardt worked some idea related to art and its environment. The themes go from the deepest comments to the most superficial and irreverent. Each sheet approach a topic: "Art", "The Art Business", "How to see a painting?", "Cubist Art", "Art through a glass of wine", "Museum career".
The series vary between the assimilation and reconstruction. Using collage as the main technique, some pieces start from the title (subject) of the sheet to turn it around. Other pieces leave behind the source, destroying it or burying under other layers. They intend to respect the same approach as Reindhart, going from the serious to the lighthearted, from the sacred to the casual.
The series consists of 30 pieces in encaustic and collage; complemented by other paintings of greater format and some sculptural works.
In addition, the works produced by Boris during his residence at our print and design workshop, Casa Lo'ol, in December 2016 will be presented.
The exhibition will open on Thursday, October 12th at 8:00 p.m. And it will be on display until the end of November.
Mácula lútea is a major project for Lux Perpetua Art Center in an effort to decentralize the production and exhibition of contemporary art in Mexico.
