Over recent years, Kinetic art has known a revival with the emergence of a brand-new generation of collectors.
Galerie Mark Hachem has always been attached to this art movement and has never ceased to represent it in solo exhibitions, collectives or at international art fairs.
For Zona Maco 2019, Galerie Mark Hachem wishes to bring together three iconic masters of this movement:
JESUS RAPHAEL SOTO, CARLOS CRUZ DIEZ, DARIO PEREZ FLORES
An anticipation of dematerialisation ?
The exceptional and previously unreleased pieces that will be shown at our booth aim to show the spectator that:
• The three artists, who came from Venezuela, chose France as their country of refuge from which to base their artistic research. It is a useful reminder that immigration and exchange often lead to considerable cultural contributions.
• Originally from a country with very little pre-Colombian art to shape their vision, these Venezuelans focused their artistic research on early 20th Century European art. It influenced them over a long period, despite the generational difference (Perez Flores is 13 years younger than Soto and Cruz Diez).
• Each of these artists eventually followed its own path and developed its own style.
• Finally, how the three artists were able to deal with painting by resolving the challenges posed by space, light and colour.
“We are indeed talking about painting here”, as Serge Lemoine (curator of exhibition “Dynamo” – Grand Palais, Paris 2013) once reminded us. One only needs to look back at Soto’s first explorations in a “Cezannian” universe to realise how spectacular their journey has been.
In this context, showing pieces from these three artists is deliberately choosing one of the many outcomes of their continuous and singular artistic research.
It’s educating and demonstrating how their lives of artistic research along common lines lead to different yet coherent results that all anticipate the growing dematerialisation of our society :
With Cruz Diez, colour tends to live independently from the shape and support.
With Soto the spectator ends up being able to enter the piece (penetrable)
With Perez Flores, a simple painting with coloured vibrations and the fragmentation of a radically geometrical support lead to the poetic dematerialisation of the latter.
The exhibition will be accompanied rare sculptures by Marino Di Teana (who was represented by galerie denise rené as the three venezuelans masters)
