For the CHART Art Fair 2018 Martin Asbæk Gallery presents entirely new works by Clare Woods
and Des Hughes, combined with the beautiful and unique series Fragments of Remembrance by
Astrid Kruse Jensen.
The concept for this year’s booth is a dialog between three artists, whose work is centered around the fragment as a figure in our time. The transformation of the materials and the presentation of the mental space is a shared interest. The artists mainly work in three mediums; painting, sculpture and photography, which together represents a larger landscape. In this landscape the materials interweave and branche out into each other as in Wood’s paintings, where the sculptural manifest itself in thick brush strokes. In Hughes’ sculptures, the object is transformed by layers of paint, and in Kruse Jensen’s photographic works, the sculptural and picturesque reproductions of the raw materials re-emerge. The fragment and memory themes combine the three artists' exploration of the work process. The interest in the processual makes it possible to create new contexts and open narratives that provide space for the viewer's own story. It is in the process that the actual work of the three artists occurs, and the composition of fragments from memory creates a 'gap' in which the past and the present fuse into a new future.
