Alex Katz is an internationally acclaimed American artist whose is considered one of the most influential artists of his generation, Katz is well-known for his large-scale portraits and landscapes, both of which are represented in the exhibition at Meyerovich Gallery.
Meyerovich Gallery’s summer exhibition features “Alex Katz: New and Recent works” until September 30, 2014. Alex Katz (b. 1927) is an American figurative artist regarded as one of the most important artists of his generation. His works have been collected and exhibited extensively in the US and around the world. In 2012, Katz celebrated his 85th birthday and a career that spans an impressive six decades. Alex Katz is associated with the Pop Art movement and is known for his bold, hard-edged figurative portraits and landscapes, among the most recognizable images in contemporary art. Katz distills his subjects down to their essence with arresting simplicity of line, color, form and a powerful graphic punch. These new, captivating and colorful artworks on display at Meyerovich Gallery feature two large floral themes: Yellow Tulips (48 x 77 inches) and White Roses (43 x 86 inches). By enveloping the viewer in nature with bold vibrant colors these works truly define Katz’s style. The exhibition also includes a collection of portraits including six unforgettable black and white etchings Six Portraits (30 x 34 inches each). As well as three distinctive women: Vivien, Sara and Sophie (39 x 41 inches each) bright yet seductively elegant, large portraits. Also featured are the most recent portrait of the artist’s wife and muse, Ada, and a dynamic image of an Olympic Swimmer.
