Michael Warren Contemporary (MWC) is pleased to present “Power/Dynamic - works by Steven Durow.” This show will run concurrently with an exhibition showcasing clay wall topographic maps by Margaret Boozer. Steven Durow’s exhibit times with his concurrent solo exhibition at Colorado Springs Fine Art Center at Colorado College and our introduction of his sculpture at SOFA Chicago November 2-5, 2017.
In “Power/Dynamic” Durow explores social dynamics as they relate to authority, fealty, ownership, protection and submission and how that is revealed in personal, and even intimate relationships as well as in political, social and work settings. Abstracting his ideas with glass sculpture, Durow presents supine forms that are tightly bound and corseted along with freestanding works that seem to stand watch. It is hard to tell if they are captors or protectors or even both.
Steven Durow lives and works in Salisbury, MD where he is Assistant Professor of Art and head of the glass and 3D programs at Salisbury University. He studied at Anderson University and at Pilchuck Glass School; Durow achieved his MFA at Tulane, where he specialized in large scale glass sculpture and installation works.
MWC presents contemporary artwork with emphasis on materials and process. The gallery also showcases many artists in the additional viewing rooms in the back of the gallery. MWC consigns an extensive collection of fine art prints from career artists practicing all over the world.
