Michael Warren Contemporary (MWC) is pleased to present “Processor: new works by Andrew Roberts-Gray.” This show will run concurrently with an exhibition showcasing abstracted paintings and sculpture by Kelton Osborn in the front gallery, along with a group show throughout the remainder of the presentation spaces.
In Andrew Roberts-Gray’s second solo exhibition at the gallery, he uses the computer processor as a metaphor for a new group of paintings:
Taking one of the materials used in the artist’s previous component series, mirrored plexiglass, Roberts-Gray begins the works by sand-blasting and polishing a pattern into the surface of each plexiglass panel. He then screenprints an image of a 1981 Intel processor diagram, and an image of the Hindu god Ganesh on each panel before using black liquid acrylic to paint landscapes on the surface. The process of sand-blasting, printing, and painting the mirrored plexiglass panels is repeated - adding and subtracting information until each work comes into focus. Andrew uses this process as a sort of reference to the methods by which silicon wafers are polished, masked, and doped to prepare them for their transformation into the processor. The results are paintings with shimmering surfaces, historical references, and the dynamic interplay of process and image.
MWC presents contemporary artwork with emphasis on materials and process. The gallery also showcases many artists in the additional viewing rooms in the back of the gallery. MWC consigns an extensive collection of fine art prints from career artists practicing all over the world.
