BETWEEN THE LINES
Pascal Pierme, sculpture
Joan Salo, painting
Exhibition; March 23-April 6
Does the line represent the calmness of life? An ideal form? Between the Lines sets two artists alongside one another for whom the simplest art element -the line- is the main component of their work. A highly promising evening awaits you!
PASCAL PIERME creates a range of abstract meditations that seem to arise directly from the medium itself, rather than from a conscious plan. He works with a variety of precious woods to create sculptures that express the texture, aroma, and strength of each. "I enjoy questions more than answers; that is where my obsession to create begins… Scientists say water has memory, I think wood has memory too; because of its smell, its temperature, its origin... Wood is strong, smart, full of character and the unexpected.” Les Origines is a series of a sculptural installations made of mahogany sculptures, each playing with ambient light in the room. Since 1990, Pascal's contemporary wall sculptures have been exhibited in over 150 national and international art galleries, as well as permanent public and private commissions, and corporate collections, and museums throughout the world.
JOAN SALO's works are unconventional in that he uses ink on the canvas, rather than the more traditional medium of paint. He uses repetitive strokes, subtle linear patterns that recall the prints textile yarn, but also scrambled channels of video, a digital tapestries and even electroencephalographic meters. Looking at these paintings they converge dual impressions of precision and lyricism, textured warmth and cold calculation, the result of artisanal procedure (pen on canvas) that achieves a highly accurate result. Joan Salo is an emerging artist who works and lives between Barcelona and Berlin, and has a BFA from the University of Barcelona. He has been shortlisted for a large-scale international project, “100 Painters of Tomorrow". Joan was also selected as "One To Watch" presenting some of the most exciting emerging talent on Saatchi Art. He has exhibited extensively in both group and solo shows throughout Spain, Italy, New York, and London, and was a finalist at SWAB, Barcelona’s annual international art fair.
