SPIRITUAL MACHINE BY TIM RICHARDSON, TO DEBUT AT MILK GALLERY
MAY 15, 2015
Exhibition will run from May 15 – May 31, 2015
March 3, 2015 (New York, New York) – Milk Gallery at Milk Studios announced today the opening of its highly anticipated exhibition, SPIRITUAL MACHINE BY TIM RICHARDSON.
Tim Richardson makes images acutely attuned to their time — a fusion of classical and futurist motifs filtered through technology. Spiritual Machine reveals the breadth and scope of his diverse career and includes editorial pictures for V Magazine, Dazed & Confused, and Vogue Hommes Japan; featuring imagery of Brooke Candy, Rinko Kikuchi, Tao Okamoto and Guinevere van Seenus.
For the exhibition, Richardson wanted to explore new territories in CG as a medium in order to reflect the fusion of classical and futuristsmotifs filtered through technology in Spiritual Machine. To do this he collaborated with Oscar Winning VFX and post production company Framestore to create the installation for the launch event, a detailed CG representation of American model Guinevere Van Seenus with an abstract shape forming cloth around her in order to emulate the cover of Richardson's book. Framestore and Richardson worked together on creating a detailed 3D scan of Guinevere and using motion capture data to turn the model's lines into 3D surfaces that hold the fluidity and posture of her movements.
Richardson’s images move far beyond the camera, exploring the figure and fashion through motion capture, scanning, and 3D imaging. His exhibited work includes installations for the Venice Dance Biennale and OneDotZero. The results are mesmerizing, otherworldly, dreamlike images that radiate with color and movement.
The exhibition is in conjunction with the release of Tim Richardson
Spiritual Machine published by Prestel, with texts by Adam Whitney Nichols and Russell Storerand an interview by Christopher Michael.
