Mind Set Art Center is pleased to present a group exhibition “Summer Time” composed of recent and past works by artists including Shiau-Peng CHEN, LIN Chuan-Chu, Mia Wen-Hsuan LIU, SHI Jin-Hua and SHI Jinsong. The exhibition runs from 9 July to 20 August 2016 and you are cordially invited to attend the event.
Exhibited for the first time, SHI Jin-Hua’s recent piece 7 Letters Mantra is a special work consistent with the concept of his Pen Walking series and at the same time an artistic practice inspired by Buddhism which the artist has long studied. Under the assistance of Shi, a pencil devoted itself to the writing of the name of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha in Chinese (南無地藏王菩薩) on a piece of paper on which, the pencil shavings produced along the process were also incorporated to form the work. When the pencil was too short to be grasped by the hand, it was shaved off entirely and the resulting fragments will be ignited with incense when the work is exhibited, completing the pencil’s offering to the Bodhisattva. Another new work by SHI, Pen Walking #159, the consumed tube of brown oil paint is transformed into a painting on a canvas rendering a young man pondering at the edge of a pond in a winter night, while the empty tube became the reflection of the young man in the pond. It reminds us of those decision making moments we had came across in the life.
On the other hand, Shiau-Peng CHEN’s work Gifts for Those Artists, is a reflection of the artist’s own artistic journey. CHEN picked motives from her past work and related them to other artists or art organization which have influenced her and form new dialogues with them. This work not only reflects CHEN’s thought about art, but also creates new perspectives for comprehending the mentioned artists and art history. Mia Wen-Hsuan LIU’s We talked with each other about each other comprised of two delicately fabricated works of paper, unfolding before our eyes the flow of light, air, color and warmth with elegancy and subtle emotions.
In this height of summer, we invite you to embrace art, to reset your mind and enjoy the refreshment and calmness that art brings.
