Jennifer Lefort’s paintings combine contrasting colours, textures and spatial illusions throughout. Although decidedly abstract, components of the work are pulled from contemporary life: acidic and plastic colours from a digital and luminous world, isolated gestures that hover like logos or branding in space, organic forms that are neither real nor representative. The artist’s process embraces intuition and accident, used in combination with a visual language that is uniquely hers. Like a new hybrid creation, the result is an abstract space that is unidentifiable but somehow familiar nonetheless. Within these colour filled gestural works, emerges the coexistence of formalism and expressionism, structure and disorder. The artist’s paintings offer a place for speculation, fantasy, freedom, contemplation and projection.
