Mini Galerie is proud to announce Diagonal, the second solo exhibition by artist duo Graphic Surgery with the gallery.
Gysbert Zijlstra (1978) and Erris Huigens (1978) derive their inspiration from the industrial and urban landscape with its strictly functional, non-aesthetic steel structures, scaffolding and construction cranes. In order to break with the rectangular omnipresence in the built environment Graphic Surgery explores the diagonal in their indoor and outdoor art pieces. The diagonal forms the vital and solid base of their works the same way it supports the construction of buildings and cranes.
Diagonal showcases the broad range of Graphic Surgery’s art practice, varying from their most minimal deconstructions to their complex, layered Increment series. Not only is there an apparent duality between minimal and complex artworks, but also between modern and classic techniques, as well as between analog and digital. The twofoldness reflects the collaborations between two individuals who have the ability to merge their characteristics into one body of work.
