In his last years Braque returned repeatedly to the motif of the bird in flight. The bird provides both a poignant reflection on a life's work that concentrated on space and movement in space as well as the impending release of the spirit from its mortal bounds.

In his later years Cubist Georges Braque returned repeatedly to the motif of the bird in flight. The bird provides both a poignant reflection on a life's work that concentrated on space and movement in space as well as the impending release of the spirit from its mortal bounds. In this online show we present a series of Braque's original lithographs of birds from the 1950s and 60s, including a series entitled 'Derniers Messages' published posthumously by Galerie Maeght in 1967.
