The exhibition comes from Mouvements Modernes encounter two years ago with the Tokyoite Yukufu gallery, both galleries sharing a common interest in artists who explore and transform matter in an unexplored or unusual way.
With this new exhibition, Mouvements Modernes confirms its support to artists with a reknown expertise in the field of contemporary ceramic, such as Shigekazu Nagae, Kanjiro Moriyama and Masaru Nakada. Shigekazu Nagae stands among the japanese contemporary ceramic pioneers. He is known for his softly curved sculptures, as light as origamis.
Kanjiro Moriyama’s work has already been presented by Mouvements Modernes in March 2015 at Hotel Meurice Palace Mix & Match exhibition : following traditional know-how, his pieces are close to Nagae’s whose work he admires… Masaru Nakada’s porcelain pieces are quite different from the two previous artists’ ones : his generation finds inspiration in today japanese pop culture. With JAPAN ! , Mouvements Modernes extends its interest to new materials and presents for the first time in France, Sachi Fujikake’s blown glass and Naoki Takeyama’s cloisonne enamel work. Sachi Fujikake shapes her pieces by combining perfectly mastered techniques (blowing, sanding, firing). Her sculptures, delicately curved, capture light and seem floating. Naoki Takeyama, a young ar tist already well known in Japan, explores the traditional cloisonne technique in mostly geometrical shapes. His range of colours and designs bear the influence of avant-garde fashion and design artists of the Eighties. Mouvements Modernes will present, with this exhibition, some furniture pieces by japanese contemporary designers such as Shigeru Ban and Noriko Ashida…
