For Crossroads Art Fair we are glad to propose 4 outstanding artists: Luis Feo (1975, Spain, Drawing/Painting), Héctor Velázquez (1965, Mexico. Sculpture), David Moreno (1978, Spain. Sculpture) and Mario Soria (1966, Spain. Painting).
Luis Feo’s personal work combines hand-crafted pencil, airbrush, graphite powder, stencils and varnish. Looking so intensely real, Feo says that everything his drawings reflect is a lie: they are idealizations. His mastery of graphite is only comparable to the great masters of Contemporary Realism. His work was soon recognized obtaining various scholarships and awards: a training scholarship of the Foundation Pilar and Joan Miró (2000), the First prize of the National Competition of Graphic Arts for young creators from Calcografía Nacional (2000), a honorable mention in the X national contest of drawing Gregorio Prieto (2000, Valdepeñas), among others. He recently received the prestigious Ynglada-Guillot's drawing Prize awarded by the Fundación Vila Casas (2014). His work forms part of important collections, including: Casa de la Moneda (Madrid), Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró. Mallorca, Facultad de Bellas Artes de Madrid (U.C.M.), Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna (Italia); Calcografía Nacional (Madrid), Biblioteca Nacional (Madrid) Fundación CEIM (Madrid), Museo de Bellas Artes (Badajoz), Fundación Colegio del Rey (Alcalá de Henares), Arte y Naturaleza. Madrid, Reial Académia Catalana de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi (Barcelona), Fundaçió Vila Casas (Barcelona). Olor Visual (Barcelona).
Héctor Velázquez Gutiérrez investigates psychic and emotional relationships between representations of the physical land or topographical maps, with the body, the dermis and the garment that covers it. Through different materials such as fabrics, threads, used clothing and stones creates pieces that invite the viewer to get involved emotionally and physically. Weaves his intimate conception of the human body with old and new "skins" returning to pre-Hispanic worldviews as Xipe Tótec in some cases. He has exhibited in individual and collective way on multiple occasions in Mexico, France, Germany, Hong Kong, United States and Spain. His work has been selected in the Bienal Monterrey FEMSA 1999 to 2014, the Yucatan Biennale, 2004, and was a special guest to participate in the Fourth International Biennial of contemporary textile art in 2011. And in 2004 he was invited to do an intervention at the Ethnological Museum of Berlin.
His works are part of important public and private collections such as Banco de México, Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo de la UNAM and Museo de Arte de Querétaro.
Mario Soria is a Spanish painter from Barcelona with a very vivid imagination. Usually working with mixed media on wood where he creates really captivating and elaborated works of art. Often using surrealist hints he can transform known objects or images to something completely new and fascinating. His paintings are inspired on world icons wrapped on surrealism atmospheres. They are a mix of American pop art and European traditional art that he likes to call “Surrealism interstellar pop". After his participation at The European Fine Art Fair (TEFAF) in Maastricht in 1998 his artwork started to be part of important public and private collections.
David Moreno's artworks can be defined as drawings in space. His series of works arise from the transfer of the two-dimensions of the paper to the three dimensions in sculpture forms. After the juxtaposition and grating different thicknesses of steel rods or piano wires, a series of micro-atmospheres are generated. A unique motive is constantly repeated in an addictive, disturbing and poetic way at the same time. The rhythm, gesture, line drawing and the experiment of drawing with thin steel rods is the basis for this exploration which results in small pieces with great delicacy and tenderness characteristics. His works are part of important public and private collections such as: Private Collection Raul Otero (Lima, Peru), Fava Design Group (Miami, United States), Vila-Casas Foundation (Spain), Banc Sabadell Foundation (Spain), OLOR VISUAL Foundation (Spain), Nacional Suiza de Seguros (Spain), Federación Catalana de Basquet (Spain).
